A hearty welcome to the homepage of University of Debrecen Faculty of Music.
The Faculty of Music at the University of Debrecen and its predecessors have been present in the musical higher education for more than fifty years. Over the decades, we had the opportunity to experience many institutional forms, but our main goals remained the same: to provide diverse education programs so that the students who study with us would be able to acquire the most up to date and advanced qualifications possible as teachers and artists. This process is supported by our excellent teaching staff and the friendly atmosphere that results from the personal nature of music education.
Our students have the opportunity to spend intensive, unforgettable years enriched with improvement here, and we aim to support that with every instrument we have. Along with attending individual courses, the pupils training here can also advance in our great ensembles, to (re-)discover the joy of making music together. This opportunity is provided by our choirs, symphony orchestras, string and wind ensembles, guitar bands and chamber orchestras as well as the annual Young Musicians’ Summer Academy, which is a great success every year.
You can also find additional information on our colourful and vivacious concert life, competitions and professional conferences on this webpage.
Our Institution’s unique feature is that the dormitories and the site of the education can be found in the same building. Our founders believed that this arrangement enables more effective advancement and it facilitates the forming of both professional and informal relationships. Even today we are still enjoying the benefits that result from this decision.
Since 2006, we have been an independent faculty of the University of Debrecen, which has opened doors for us to the areas of university life that we have not known yet.
Our university is outstanding in many aspects compared to other universities. Among other exceptional features, at the University of Debrecen, we have the highest number of foreign students studying here and we have the widest range of educational structure, which is presented by fourteen faculties. This “large family” provides us unique opportunities: before integrating into the university, our connections were mostly restricted to institutions of the musical higher education, which meant the risk of becoming an “ivory tower”. However, as a part of the university, we had the possibility to discover and define our values again, and to represent these to our university’s various professional and organizational units with fresh vitality. As performers, we are present at most of the important events of the university, where our students and teachers can demonstrate the value of our art.
Being a university student provides an excellent opportunity for our pupils to attend the captivating courses of other faculties or colleges for advanced studies, and of course, for entertainment and relaxation as well.
On the whole, these factors bring with themselves the feeling that it is good to be a student at the University of Debrecen, that it is a joy to study, to improve, to advance in this city; and last but not least, that it is great to be a student of the Faculty of Music!
