Solfeggio, theory of music

A test on harmony and structures of baroque, romantic and viennese classical music; notation by ear of a two-part baroque or classical fragment , sight-reading of a part from a baroque or classical oratorio, playing harmonies on piano by dictation, assessing the candidate’s skills on musical arrangement.


Presentation of conducting skills and rehearsal work through pieces performed on the piano or by an orchestra.

Compulsory pieces, one of them must be chosen by the candidate

  • Vivaldi: Organ concerto in d-minor (the first 5-10 minutes)
  • Tchaikovsky: 1812 overture (the first 5-10 minutes)
  • Verdi: Les Vépres Siciliennes (the first 5-10 minutes)
  • Verdi: La Forza del Destino – overture (the first 5-10 minutes)
  • Liszt: 2nd Hungarian Rhapsody (the first 5-10 minutes)
  • Kodály Zoltán: Intermezzo (the first 5-10 minutes)

Music literature

A written test on music literature to assess the candidate’s knowledge of music literature of previous bachelor studies.


Performance of four pieces from different eras by heart. The difficulty level should correspond with the candidate’s former piano studies. (Bach, a classical sonata-form movement, romantic, or a 20th-21st century or contemporary piece.)
